The Big God Story: It’s almost time!  Time to enter the promised Land, but there is a river in our way and because of the rains, it is flooded!  (The 40 years of wandering were over, Moses passed the “staff” of leadership on to Joshua and he was about to lead the Israelites into the land of Canaan.)  But Joshua said the Lord was with us, and He was.  As soon as the feet of the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant touched the water, the river stopped flowing!  We were all able to cross on dry ground just as our ancestors did with the red sea.  We took twelve really heavy rocks from the middle of the river and stacked them up on the other side so we could always remember what God had done for us.  How He never failed us even though we failed Him over and over.  Were off to conquer the land God has promised us, whoo hoo!

An entire generation of Israelites had perished while wandering in the dessert, never to see the promise land!  This new generation was to be awed with the wonders of God, God dwelt with them, led them, instructed them, provided for them and protected them.  God is the same today as He was then.  God never failed the Israelites and God will never fail you!

Read Joshua 1-4 together as a family and discuss what you have read, there are questions below to help with conversation.  Then, as a family, go for a nature hike, look for a really big rock (as big as you can carry) and put it somewhere in or by your house so every time you see it, you can stop and remember that GOS WILL NEVER FAIL YOU!

May you know that God will never fail you. He will keep His promises to you, because He is faithful, and He never changes.  Miss Melissa
